“There is a desire to work together to build up church unity.”
Father Jeffery Steenson is quoted as saying in this article from the Houston Chronicle.
The US Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter was established on January 1st of this year by Pope Benedict XVI. Currently there are nearly 50 former Anglican and Episcopalian priests as well as some 1500 laity nationwide preparing for entrance into the new structure. The goal of the Ordinariate is to achieve the unity Christ prayed His believers to have in John’s Gospel – a unity the world could see – “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.” (17:21-3)
